Stiffening Felt

A quick experiment to have a go at stiffening felt using a mixture of PVA glue and water.

for this experiment i created a small rectangle of wet felted wool.

here is an image of the same piece of wool after submerging it in a bowl of pva glue mixed with water. I used about a 1:3 ratio of pva to water.

I was worried that this would alter the feeling and texture of the wool but thankfully it just hardened it and gave the wool more strength, rather than it removing the wool felt feel.

To stiffen my light shades, I submerged them into the mixture, squeezed out some excess liquid, and then placed the lightshades onto a mould for them to dry.
